We are Edmonton’s experts in wayfinding, engaging the community and empowering all Edmontonians to affect positive change in their urban environment.

What Is Wayfinding?

Wayfinding is the mental process centred on cues that we use to determine where we are and how to get to where we want to go. We rely on cues, such as a building that reminded you to turn right, or a sign that told you what room you were seeking. We use combinations of natural landmarks, our own mental maps, and intentionally designed wayfinding features, like a sign or map, to orient ourselves and help us find our way.

Check out some of our Work to see some wayfinding examples.

Why Should We Advocate For Wayfinding In Edmonton?

We want everyone to be able to fully access the community, navigate public spaces safely, and feel able to contribute to a more vibrant Edmonton.

Being lost or unable to easily navigate an environment can be not only stressful and frustrating, but lost productively due to, well, being lost, means a loss of money as well. Improved wayfinding can also help people feel more comfortable to explore new parts of their city. By advocating for better wayfinding in our urban spaces, we are supporting a more inclusive, more friendly, and more active Edmonton.

What Can I Do?

If you want to learn more about wayfinding, want us to advise you on a wayfinding project, or want to get involved with the society, please feel free to contact us!

You can also learn about the issues with Edmonton's current wayfinding conditions by taking part in one of our Pedcrawls, or by attending some of our other events.
